The Guru Rinpoche is the yogi who is credited with bringing Buddhism to Tibet. He was born in India and discovered by a king in a lotus leaf after he was born. He was raised by that king. The Guru Rinpoche is called the second Buddha, and he went to Tibet as an adult to teach the tantras. This Guru Rinpoche thangka is mounted on brocade. The size of this thangka is 34 inches long and 20 inches wide, including the brocade. This thangka was made in Nepal. In this thangka, the Guru Rinpoche is shown with a consort on his lap. This style is known as 'yab yum'.
