This thangka is extra-large- 40 inches long and 28 inches wide in the brocade, and the painting alone is 20 inches long and 15 inches wide. This thangka was hand-painted in Nepal by a very skilled thangka painter. The White Tara is especially popular in Tibetan Buddhism. Tara is said to have been born out of the tears of compassion from Avalokiteshvara. The White Tara is known as the mother of all Buddhas and she represents motherly compassion.
