Mala Beads, or Prayer Beads, are an important tool in meditation. Our mala beads come in many materials, including bodhi seeds, lotus seeds, sandalwood, gemstones, rudraksha seeds, and more. Traditionally a Buddhist mala had 108 beads, and most of our long malas have 108 beads. Many of our wrist malas have 18 or 19 beads, and any number that is divisible by 9 (excluding the guru bead), would be considered a traditional mala. Prayer beads are popular in many religions and used differently in each religion. In Buddhism, the mala is held in one hand while meditating and the mantra is repeated as your fingers pass over each bead.
